“Inside Books Project is an Austin-based community service volunteer organization that sends free books and educational materials to prisoners in Texas. Inside Books is the only books-to-prisoners program in Texas, where over 140,000 people are incarcerated. Inside Books Project works to promote reading, literacy, and education among incarcerated individuals and to educate the general public on issues of incarceration. “

We do this by providing resources and opportunities for individuals seeking to further their careers through showcases, festivals, and various other mediums. As a result of this mission, the general public is further educated about the drag community.”

“On March 13, 2014 a drunk driver plowed through a crowd during the SXSW music festival, killing four festival-goers and injuring more than a dozen others. Later that day, the Austin Community Foundation was asked to open the SXSW Cares Fund to receive the outpouring of donations from people and companies wishing to help the victims. More than $250,000 was donated to the SXSW Cares Fund by individuals and companies locally, nationally and from around the world, aided by social media, national publicity and the festival’s wide appeal.”
