Austin Facial Hair Club’s 18th Annual Beard and Moustache Competition: Come and Shave It! Benefiting Soldier Songs and Voices, and their Reveille Retreat.
February 17th, 2024 from 11AM - 6 PM
at Sagebrush on South Congress
If you would like to sponsor a category or special award, it is $100 each payable to AFHC or directly to Soldier Songs and Voices/Reveille Retreat.
$25 to compete, $5 suggested donation for spectators
Categories:
1. 6-Month Sprint
2. First Responder - Any facial hair worn by a First Responder
3. Veterans Beard - Any facial hair worn by a Veteran
4. Goatee - No sideburns
5. Partial Beard - Any beard that is not a full beard that is not listed already.
6. Sideburns/Chops - Chin must be shaved
7. Natural Moustache - Moustache worn with no styling aids like wax or hairspray
8. Styled Moustache - Moustache styled
9. Craft Natural - Craft beard (any style) that looks like real hair
10. Craft Fantasy - craft facial hair (any style) that is made out of anything!
11. Groomed - Overall groomed look including beard, hair and ensemble
12. Full Beard Styled Stash - Moustache styled, beard natural
13. Freestyle - anything goes, any style of facial hair
14. Full Beard under 8” - under 8" as measured from the upper lip
15. Full Beard over 8” - over 8" as measured from the upper lip

About our Beneficiary:
Soldier Songs & Voices is a nonprofit organization that provides free instruments and songwriting lessons to veterans as a form of post-conflict care. Through music education and community-based outreach, we provide veterans with tools to turn their stories into songs so the nation can hear their voices. Our goal is to create communities that honor veterans of all generations.
We do not just support veterans--we invest in them.
The Reveille Retreat is designed to connect both active duty and veterans of our Armed Services with nationally acclaimed songwriters and performers to assist participants in transforming their life and military experiences into song. The Reveille Retreat is held at the beautiful TR Ranch in Hallettsville, Texas which is centrally located between Austin, San Antonio and Houston. The TR Ranch is a working cattle ranch which also hosts the Songwriter Serenade and the Live Oak Fiddle Camp. The ranch provides lodging, food and beverage service, workshop facilities, a performance venue and a recording studio for the participants.

9th Annual Dog Beard and Moustache Extravaganza!
The Austin Facial Hair Club and The Little Darlin' are teaming up to raise funding and awareness for Austin Pets Alive!
Don't have a dog? Come join the party anyway!
There will be an AMAZING raffle with tons of prizes.
The Little Darlin’ opens at 11am. We will be there around noon to start setting up, and we will begin onsite registration around 2pm. Registration will be open for the rest of the day in case you have to show up late.
We will post a “Run of Show” with exact category times closer to the event.
This family-friendly event is Free to watch (donations also accepted) and $5 entry fee per category.
You can enter your dog into as many categories as you like. All proceeds go to Austin Pets Alive!
Dog doesn't have a beard?
AFHC has your dog covered.
We'll have a craft table set up so you can create an awesome beard for your dog (and for you if you want).
CATEGORIES:
Dog & Owner Look-A-Like: Pet and owner must be similar in appearance, style, and attitude
Freestyle: Styled beard and moustache. Styling products permitted, any shape or color! Emphasis on creativity and complexity of design. Anything goes, and costumes are welcome.
Best Groomed: Neatest-looking, well-kept dog beard. Emphasis on symmetry, clean lines, and a neatness of the canine beard.
Gnarliest Beard: Wild-looking, gnarly dog beard! The wilder the better!
Sweetest Stache: The title says it all!
Old Timer: Has your dog become a curmudgeon, full of grey hair and living on a prayer? Give them one last hurrah by entering them here!
AND THEN, THE FINALE!!!
BEST IN SHOW: Winners of each category will go head-to-head to see who is the overall Best in Show!
Audience participation will be a big factor in this decision.
TO ENTER YOUR PET IN ONE OR MORE OF THE CATEGORIES, PLEASE COMPLETE THE PRE-REGISTRATION FORM ON OUR WEBSITE (link coming soon)
We will also be registering walk up competitors on the day of the event.
Onsite Registration begins onsite at 2pm and the competition will begin at 3pm.
We will have several Austin area animal non-profits and groups set up to share information about what they do, and we will also have craft vendors and a phenomenal raffle!

Let’s talk about how Nationals went, future club goals, Holiday Party options, and we have a current focus of representing Austin at the 2023 World Beard and Moustache Championships in Germany.
